Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time a test failed in a dangerous way. What happened and what changed afterward?

What they are checking: Whether they learned from a real lab incident and improved procedures.

Tell me about a lab process or test fixture you improved.

What they are checking: Whether they make the lab better, not just run tests in it.

What would you do

Your results don't match what the design team expected. How do you decide whether it's the product or the test?

What they are checking: Whether they check their own setup and data before reporting a product problem.

Three teams all need lab time this week. How do you decide the order?

What they are checking: Whether they can prioritize fairly based on program impact and safety.

About the work

You'd test circuit protection devices in a high voltage lab. What safety practices do you insist on before energizing a test?

What they are checking: Whether they have strong high voltage safety habits, which protect everyone in the lab.

Walk me through how you'd design a short-circuit interruption test for a DC fuse in an EV application.

What they are checking: Whether they understand DC interruption, circuit time constants and test setup for automotive use.

What makes DC interruption harder than AC, and how does that affect your testing?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that DC has no natural current zero, which changes arc behavior.

How do you measure fast transients accurately at high voltage?

What they are checking: Whether they know probes, grounding and data acquisition well enough to trust the waveform.

Which standards for automotive or industrial circuit protection have you tested against?

What they are checking: Whether they know the test requirements their results will be judged by.

How do you write a test report that design engineers will actually use?

What they are checking: Whether they report findings clearly, with conditions and limits, so others can act on them.
