Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time testing caught a serious problem before launch.

What they are checking: Real impact of their testing work on product quality.

Tell me about a time you led other engineers on a test effort.

What they are checking: Senior leadership in organizing and guiding a test team.

What would you do

A bug shows up once every few hundred trigger pulls. How do you track it down?

What they are checking: Patience and method for intermittent faults in hardware and firmware.

How do you work with firmware engineers when your test finds a problem they think is not real?

What they are checking: Using data to resolve disagreements across engineering teams.

What would you do if a launch date was close and testing was not complete?

What they are checking: Communicating risk clearly rather than quietly cutting test coverage.

About the work

How would you design a test plan for an embedded system in a cordless tool, from the board level up to the full product?

What they are checking: Building layered test coverage for embedded electronics, which this posting centers on.

Walk me through how you would test firmware behavior when the tool stalls under heavy load.

What they are checking: Testing fault and edge conditions where tools are most likely to fail or be unsafe.

What test equipment and automation have you used to validate embedded hardware?

What they are checking: Hands-on experience with scopes, power supplies, DAQ and test scripts.

How do you decide what to automate in testing and what to keep manual?

What they are checking: Judgment on where automation pays off and where human checks still matter.

How would you test that a tool's protection features, like over-current or over-temperature, really work?

What they are checking: Verifying safety-related functions under realistic fault conditions.

How do you make sure test results are traceable to requirements?

What they are checking: Discipline in linking tests to requirements so coverage gaps are visible.
