Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a creator or influencer program you owned end to end, from sourcing through renewal decisions.

whether the candidate has actually run the full lifecycle of a program versus just executing pieces of one

Tell me about a time you cut an influencer or creator relationship that wasn't performing. What data made that call, and how did you handle the conversation?

comfort making unpopular budget calls and defending them with evidence, not gut feel

Tell me about a negotiation with a creator or their agent where the rate they wanted didn't match the value you were seeing. How did that play out?

real negotiation experience and backbone on spend, not just relationship management

Walk me through a piece of organic content you produced or directed that you think really worked. What made it travel, and how did you know Gen Z was actually responding versus just scrolling past?

actual platform instinct for what performs versus generic content marketing knowledge

Tell me about a time you had to build a readout that needed to survive a room with senior leadership in it. What did you include, and what did you leave out?

ability to synthesize data into a narrative executives can act on, since this role reports readouts to a CMO-level audience

What's the difference between managing someone new to the field and someone who's more senior than you expected when you first led people?

whether their leadership claim is genuine given they may be newer to managing a team of two

Technical

How have you set up affiliate or performance tracking for creators — CJ, Impact, Rakuten, or similar — and what broke or surprised you when you tried to trace a sale back to a specific post?

hands-on depth with attribution tooling versus surface familiarity with the names

Describe the scoring model or framework you've used to rank a creator roster. What inputs mattered most and why?

ability to build a repeatable, defensible system rather than case-by-case judgment calls

What generative AI tools have you actually used in content production — Veo, Sora, Runway, Midjourney, ElevenLabs, whatever — and where did the output fall short of what a human needed to fix?

genuine hands-on fluency versus buzzword familiarity, since the role requires directing and critiquing AI output

Marketplace or e-commerce content has to convert, not just entertain. How does that change the way you brief a creator compared to a pure brand-awareness campaign?

understanding of the shift from brand marketing to performance-driven content at a transactional business like Groupon

Situational

Say you've got a TikTok creator whose videos are getting huge views but almost no attributed orders. Someone on the team wants to renew because the content 'feels like it's working.' What do you do?

whether they separate vanity metrics from real performance and can push back on soft arguments with data

If I gave your team a generative AI tool tomorrow and told you to cut production time in half without dropping quality, how would you actually restructure the workflow?

whether they can operationalize AI tools into a team process, not just use them personally

You've got two direct reports and one calendar spanning organic social and the creator program. How would you set the operating rhythm so nothing falls through the cracks between the two?

management maturity and ability to run one unified system rather than siloed workstreams

A creator posts content that technically follows the brief but just doesn't feel right for the brand once it's live. What's your process for catching that before it goes out, and what do you do if it already has?

quality control instincts and how they handle brand risk in a fast-moving creator pipeline

Groupon connects 42 million customers with local experiences - restaurants, events, wellness and travel - and the million-plus merchants who deliver them. Our mission is to get people offline and into the real world at prices that make it possible. We're an AI-native company in the middle of a platform transformation, moving from a deals marketplace to an experience discovery platform that works for customers and merchants at the same time.

Social Media & Influencer Manager — North America

Chicago (preferred) or US remote · Hybrid · Full-time

The Role

Groupon is rebuilding its brand, and North America is the main stage. We need one person to own how we show up in culture — our organic social channels and our influencer & creator program. One brain, one calendar, zero silos.

You'll report to the Brand Marketing Director, lead a team of two, and spend your days answering questions like "is this TikTok video actually driving traffic to our site or is it just getting views to the influencer only" and "is this creator still worth their rate" — with data to back both answers.

What You'll Do

Run the NA influencer & creator program end to end — sourcing, rates, contracts, briefs, content review, renewals. You own the budget, the ambassador roster, and the call on who gets reinvested and who gets a polite goodbye.

Keep it trackable — affiliate links, promo codes, creator hub pages, and a scoring model that ranks the roster on engagement, deal-view lift, and attributed orders. Vibes are for content. Decisions get data.

Direct organic social — channel mix, content pillars, cadence, and the final call on what ships across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and whatever's next.

Build AI-native — generative tools are the default here. You should be credible enough in them to direct, critique, and unblock, not just nod at demos.

Lead the team — coach two , set one operating rhythm across social and creator, and hold the quality bar.

Own the numbers — Total Views on organic; attributed orders and cost-per-view on influencers & creators. Kill what underperforms, reinvest in what works, and build readouts that survive a room with the CMO in it.

You're Probably Our Person If...

5+ years across social and influencer marketing, with 2+ years owning a creator program and its budget.

You've negotiated rates, structured contracts, and defended spend with performance data — not a mood board.

You've run affiliate/performance tracking for creators (CJ, Impact, Rakuten, or similar) from post through to purchase.

You know what actually travels on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube — and how Gen Z consumes, creates, and moves on before your first draft is approved.

You're fluent with AI production tools (Veo, Sora, Runway, Midjourney, ElevenLabs, etc.) — enough to judge the output, not just approve it.

You can pull a report, find the story, and say what happens next.

You've led people — or you can make a convincing case that you're ready to.

Bring receipts. Work samples are required — creator campaigns you ran and what they returned, and social content you produced or directed.

Bonus points: marketplace or e-comm experience where content had to convert, long-form YouTube partnerships, comfort on camera, light editing chops.

The Logistics

Chicago preferred (US remote works too if outside of the Greater Chicago area) · Hybrid with regular office days · Full-time, permanent.

If you read this and thought "this is literally my job" — we look forward to your application!

Compensation: DOE 70,000 - 90,000/yr +15% target bonus

Groupon is an AI-First Company
We’re committed to building smarter, faster, and more innovative ways of working and AI plays a key role in how we get there.
