Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about the most complex Java full-stack system you've owned. What decisions did you make that you'd make again, and which would you change?

What they are checking: Whether their seven-plus years include real ownership and honest reflection, which separates senior from long-tenured.

Tell me about a developer you mentored. What did you do, and how did you know it worked?

What they are checking: Whether they actually grow other developers, which the posting calls out as a core senior responsibility.

Tell me about a time you set or changed a coding standard across a team. How did you get people to follow it?

What they are checking: Whether they can lead consistent practices through persuasion and tooling, not just by decree.

What would you do

In an architecture review, a proposed design will work now but you think it will struggle in two years. How do you raise that?

What they are checking: Whether they can make a persuasive case for long-term health without blocking reasonable progress.

A project plan has a date that you believe the team can't meet. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they raise risk early with options, instead of staying quiet and missing the date.

About the work

A Java service has memory growing steadily until it falls over every few days. How do you investigate?

What they are checking: Whether they can use heap dumps, GC logs and profiling to find leaks instead of just restarting servers.

How do you design a Java application so it stays maintainable as more developers and features are added?

What they are checking: Whether they think about module boundaries, clear interfaces and testability for long-lived enterprise code.

Walk me through how you handle concurrency in Java when several threads update shared data.

What they are checking: Whether they understand thread safety and its tradeoffs, which causes subtle bugs in high-volume systems.

What does a thorough code review from you look like, and how do you give hard feedback without discouraging people?

What they are checking: Whether their reviews raise team quality while keeping trust, which is what makes reviews work.

How do you approach the front-end side of a full-stack Java application, and where do you draw the line between client and server logic?

What they are checking: Whether their full-stack skills are real and they make sensible decisions about where logic belongs.

How do you decide when to upgrade a framework or library in a mature Java application?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh security, support and risk when keeping a long-lived system current.
