Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a product you took through FDA clearance. What was the hardest part?

What they are checking: First-hand regulatory experience and how they handled setbacks along the way.

Tell me about a time you had to cut scope to hit a regulatory or commercial deadline.

What they are checking: Judgment about what can safely wait and how they communicate tradeoffs.

What would you do

How would you decide which ECG-AI algorithm to build next?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh clinical need, data availability, regulatory path and commercial value together.

A cardiologist says the ECG-AI result is useful but does not fit into their workflow. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they see clinical workflow integration as part of the product, not an afterthought.

You need alignment between the Technology and Science organizations, and they want different things. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Ability to align groups with different goals around a shared roadmap.

How do you work with data scientists when the model's performance on a subgroup is weaker than expected?

What they are checking: Whether they take bias and generalizability seriously in a clinical AI product.

About the work

Walk me through the SaMD lifecycle as you have experienced it. Where do product managers most often get it wrong?

What they are checking: Real experience bringing software as a medical device to market, not just reading about it.

How do design controls and risk management change the way you write requirements?

What they are checking: Understanding that requirements in a regulated product must be traceable to risk and verification.

How would you integrate an AI result into an EHR so physicians actually see and act on it?

What they are checking: Familiarity with EHR integration and how point-of-care delivery shapes adoption.

What would you track in post-market surveillance for an AI cardiac device?

What they are checking: Awareness of performance drift, complaints and real-world monitoring after clearance.

How do you measure whether an ECG-AI product is succeeding after launch?

What they are checking: Whether they connect clinical impact, adoption and business results.

Passionate about precision medicine and advancing the healthcare industry? Recent advancements in underlying technology have finally made it possible for AI to impact clinical care in a meaningful way. Tempus' proprietary platform connects an entire ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, providing critical information about the right treatments for the right patients, at the right time. As a Senior Product Manager for Tempus ECG-AI, you'll own the product roadmap for our ECG-AI offering—from algorithm scoping and development through commercial deployment into clinical workflows. You'll join a team with deep, proven experience bringing SaMD products to market, and you'll play a key role in shaping how AI-powered cardiac diagnostics are delivered at the point of care. What You'll Do: • Develop and manage the product roadmap for the ECG-AI offering, ensuring alignment with Tempus' strategic goals across both the Technology and Science organizations. • Own the core ECG-AI device roadmap through the full SaMD lifecycle—including algorithm prioritization, scoping, development, clinical validation, design controls, risk management, regulatory clearance, clinical implementation, and post-market surveillance. • Drive the development of software that enables integration of the ECG-AI devices into clinical workflows, ensuring the approach to deployment of SaMDs leads to high impact, clinical outcomes for the patients at our partner health systems • Work closely with engineering, data science, clinical, and regulatory/quality teams to drive the planning, design, development, validation, and user experience of ECG-AI solutions. • Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to develop project plans, set ambitious targets during quarterly planning, and take full accountability for achieving those results. • Oversee product releases to ensure the device and its integration are stable in production, scale reliably, and include ongoing monitoring of deployed machine learning model performance. • Distill, refine, and document technical and clinical requirements across teams, leveraging modern AI-assisted workflows to maximize precision and speed. • Lead operational change management for production changes, manage related workflow impacts, and triage product support requests. Qualifications: • 6+ years of experience in product management, including hands-on experience developing and launching a Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) product — through design controls, verification & validation, and regulatory clearance (e.g., FDA 510(k), De Novo, or equivalent). This experience is required. • Outstanding cross-functional leadership skills, with proven experience managing complex projects through influence — particularly across engineering and data science/ML teams. • A proven track record of translating scientific or clinical research into design and product decisions. • Demonstrated ability to manage several programs at once and work proactively to align multi-disciplinary stakeholders (engineering, science, regulatory, clinical). • Exceptional storytelling and communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical and regulatory concepts in simple terms. • AI-Fluency: Leverages Generative AI to accelerate individual productivity and applies a strategic vision for incorporating an agentic-first approach into product solutions. • A growth mindset and a desire to continuously learn. • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and a pervasive bias toward clarity and scalability. • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. • Knowledge of healthcare data is ideal, and experience in cardiology or cardiac diagnostics specifically is a strong plus.
