Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a physician search you'd call one of your toughest, maybe a subspecialty oncology role that sat open for a long time. What made it hard and how did you finally close it?

whether the candidate can handle the long, difficult searches typical of niche cancer service line roles rather than easy high-volume placements

Tell me about a time you kept a candidate warm for a year or more before there was a real opportunity for them. What did you do to stay relevant to them over that time?

ability to manage the multi-year relationship cycle physician recruiting requires, not just quick-turn hiring

Tell me about a candidate you had to walk away from, someone who looked great on paper but wasn't the right fit. How did you figure that out and how did you handle telling them?

screening judgment and ability to have hard conversations honestly

Tell me about a time a site partner or administrator was frustrated with how a search was going. How did you handle that relationship?

stakeholder management skill with site leadership, a core accountability in the role

Describe a time you coached or oriented a newer recruiter on a tricky candidate situation. What did you tell them to look for?

readiness for the mentoring and team resource responsibilities called out in the job description

Technical

How do you build a sourcing plan for a hard-to-fill role, say a surgical oncologist for a specific market? Walk me through where you'd actually start.

depth of real sourcing methodology versus just naming channels like job boards

What CRM systems have you used to manage a physician pipeline, and how did you actually use it day to day, not just log activity?

real hands-on fluency with recruiting technology versus surface familiarity

A physician candidate raises visa or immigration questions partway through the process. What do you actually know about how that affects timeline and who do you loop in?

working knowledge of immigration implications in physician recruitment, a named requirement in the posting

What's a recruitment process or workflow you personally changed or improved in a past role, and how did you know it worked?

evidence of the proactive process-improvement expectation named in the posting

Situational

Say a hiring department wants a candidate profile that doesn't really exist in the market, unicorn requirements. How do you handle that conversation with the physician leader?

comfort pushing back on stakeholders and educating leadership on market realism

How do you talk to a candidate about compensation and employment law questions without overstepping into legal advice you're not qualified to give?

judgment on where recruiter expertise ends and legal or compliance involvement begins

You're running two or three high-priority searches at once with conference travel and evening candidate calls stacked on top. How do you actually prioritize your week?

realistic time management given the travel and after-hours demands stated in the posting

If a search you're leading is going nowhere after several months, what's your process for deciding whether to change strategy, change the ask, or recommend a search firm?

strategic judgment and process improvement mindset rather than just persistence
