Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a complex commercial agreement you structured from scratch. What made it hard?

What they are checking: Whether they have true deal-structuring experience, not only redlining other people's paper.

Tell me about a time you disagreed with a business leader about how much risk to accept. How did it end?

What they are checking: Whether they advise firmly, document the decision and accept that the business owns the final risk call.

Tell me about a time you supported several business areas at once. How did you prioritize?

What they are checking: Whether they manage competing deadlines with clear communication rather than letting someone's deal quietly stall.

What would you do

A sales team needs a deal signed by quarter end, but the customer wants uncapped liability. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can find a workable middle ground and explain risk in business terms instead of just saying no.

How do you give real-time legal advice when a business partner calls and needs an answer in ten minutes?

What they are checking: Whether they can give a practical, risk-weighted answer fast while being honest about what needs more review.

These are mostly Allstate's non-insurance businesses. How would you get up to speed on several different business models quickly?

What they are checking: Whether they learn the business behind the contract, which is what makes advice useful rather than generic.

What's your approach to negotiating with a much larger counterparty that insists on its own paper?

What they are checking: Whether they pick their battles and know which terms are worth fighting for when leverage is limited.

About the work

Walk me through the key terms you focus on first when negotiating an agreement to sell technology or data to a customer.

What they are checking: Whether they know where real risk lives, like data rights, liability caps and indemnities, and prioritize accordingly.

How do you approach data licensing terms when the data includes information about consumers?

What they are checking: Whether they connect contract terms to privacy law and know when to bring in privacy specialists.

How do you build templates or playbooks so routine deals don't all need your personal review?

What they are checking: Whether they think about scaling legal support and empowering sales teams within safe guardrails.
