Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
This role leads change strategies for finance transformation programs. Walk me through a change effort you ran end to end.
What they are checking: Whether they have owned a change effort from start to finish, including planning, execution and measuring whether people actually adopted it.
You'd partner with senior leaders to model desired ways of working. How do you get a leader to change their own behavior?
What they are checking: Whether they can coach senior leaders to change their own habits, since employees follow what leaders do, not what they announce.
A program is behind and someone suggests cutting the change work. How do you respond?
What they are checking: Whether they can explain the cost of skipping change work in business terms, defending it without sounding territorial.
What would you do
You'd drive end-to-end adoption of new processes and operating models across people, process and technology. Which of those three do programs usually underinvest in?
What they are checking: Whether they can honestly name where programs fall short, usually on people, which shows real experience rather than textbook answers.
Finance teams have to keep closing the books while the transformation runs. How do you plan around that?
What they are checking: Whether they plan change around close cycles and peak periods, so the transformation does not disrupt finance's core work.
How do you tell whether resistance to a change is a communication problem or a real objection?
What they are checking: Whether they listen closely enough to tell confusion from a valid concern, because real objections should change the plan.
How do you hand a change over so it sticks after the program team leaves?
What they are checking: Whether they build ownership, reinforcement and measures into the business before leaving, so the change lasts after the project ends.
The same finance transformation has an Associate Director and a Director of Change Management posted alongside this Senior Manager role. Where do you place yourself across the three?
What they are checking: Whether they can honestly place themselves across three posted levels, which shows self-awareness and helps match them to the right role.
About the work
You'd work with subject matter experts to translate transformation objectives into behavioral expectations and adoption milestones. Give me an example of a milestone you could actually observe.
What they are checking: Whether they can turn broad goals into behaviors someone could actually see and count, which makes adoption measurable.
How do you measure adoption rather than awareness?
What they are checking: Whether they measure real use of new processes, not just whether people heard about them, since awareness alone changes nothing.
