Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
Behavioral
Walk me through a homeowners product you built or improved from concept to launch. What was broken or missing, and how did you know?
whether the candidate has actually run the full product lifecycle, not just contributed pieces of it
Describe a project where pricing or actuarial, claims, and product teams didn't agree on the right path forward. How did you work through that?
cross-functional influence and comfort managing disagreement between partners with different incentives
Tell me about a decision you made independently that turned out to be wrong. What did you catch, and what did you change?
comfort with independent decision-making and honesty about judgment errors, both explicitly required in the posting
What project management approach do you use to keep a multi-team product implementation on track, and where has it broken down before?
real project management experience versus familiarity with the vocabulary
Technical
How would you build a business case for entering a new homeowners market or segment? What data would you pull together and how would you present the tradeoffs?
ability to structure a cost-benefit analysis using performance metrics, competitor activity, and market trends
Tell me about a time you had to write or revise contract language or underwriting guidelines. How did you make sure it held up legally and made sense to underwriters in the field?
hands-on familiarity with policy language and underwriting standards, and attention to compliance detail
What predictive models or pricing analytics have you worked with directly, and what was your role versus the actuarial team's role?
clarity about the boundary of their own analytical work versus actuarial ownership
How do you stay on top of competitor rate filings and rule manual changes, and how do you turn that raw research into something leadership can act on?
practical process for ongoing competitive intelligence, not just one-time analysis
After a product launches, how do you decide what to monitor and how often, and what would make you flag it as underperforming?
understanding of post-launch performance monitoring including financial benefits realization
Situational
Suppose a competitor just filed a significant rate change in a state you cover. How would you figure out what it means for American Family's position, and what would you recommend?
skill in competitive rate and filing analysis and translating it into an actionable recommendation
If you launched a new homeowners feature and three months later agent satisfaction scores dropped even though profitability improved, what would you do?
whether the candidate balances multiple success measures instead of chasing a single metric
Give me an example of when customer feedback pointed one direction and profitability data pointed another on a product decision. What did you do?
ability to reconcile customer experience goals with financial performance goals
