Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

You have limited design oversight in this role. Tell me about a design decision you made on your own and how you validated it.

What they are checking: Whether they can make sound decisions independently and check them with architecture when it matters.

Tell me about a time you worked with an operations team to support an integration after go-live.

What they are checking: Whether they build things that are supportable, with good logging and clear runbooks.

What would you do

An integration you built is slow in production during peak hours. How do you find the bottleneck?

What they are checking: Whether they use monitoring, logs and load testing to find causes rather than guessing.

About the work

Explain API-led connectivity in MuleSoft and how you decide what belongs in system, process and experience APIs.

What they are checking: Whether they design reusable layers instead of building point-to-point integrations.

Walk me through how you handle errors in a Mule flow that calls three downstream systems.

What they are checking: Whether they use error handling scopes, retries and compensation so partial failures do not corrupt data.

When would you put an API behind Azure API Management instead of MuleSoft's own gateway?

What they are checking: Whether they understand how the two platforms fit together in the bank's cloud-first direction.

How do you secure an API that exposes policyholder data?

What they are checking: Whether they apply OAuth, policies, least privilege and data masking for sensitive insurance data.

How do you write DataWeave transformations that stay readable and testable as they grow?

What they are checking: Whether they write maintainable code, not one giant transform nobody else can support.

How do you version an API when a breaking change is needed and many consumers depend on it?

What they are checking: Whether they plan for backward compatibility and consumer communication.

How do you test your Mule applications before they reach production?

What they are checking: Whether they use MUnit and CI pipelines in line with the enterprise SDLC.
