Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you caught a supply or inventory risk before it became a real problem. How did you spot it and what did you do next?

proactive risk identification and follow-through on escalation, not just reporting problems after the fact

Describe a situation where you had to communicate a difficult trade-off decision to stakeholders who didn't agree with your recommendation.

ability to hold a position under pushback while keeping cross-functional relationships intact

Tell me about a time you worked with people in manufacturing, demand planning, and maybe finance, all pulling in different directions. How did you get to a decision?

cross-functional collaboration skill and comfort brokering competing priorities rather than escalating everything

Give me an example of a process improvement or lean idea you introduced in a planning or supply chain context. What was the result?

genuine continuous improvement experience versus just familiarity with the vocabulary

Have you worked in CPG or a similarly fast-moving, high-SKU-count environment before? What was different about planning there compared to other industries you've seen?

relevant industry context and whether the candidate grasps the scale and complexity of consumer goods supply chains

Technical

Walk me through how you'd build a constrained MPS or DRP plan for a category when demand exceeds available capacity. What trade-offs would you look at first?

whether the candidate understands the mechanics of constrained planning and how to prioritize trade-offs between service, inventory and capacity

What's your experience with SAP planning modules or Kinaxis, and can you give an example of a plan you built or adjusted using one of those tools?

actual hands-on familiarity with the specific planning systems versus general software comfort

Master data errors can quietly break a whole planning run. How would you go about finding and fixing a data integrity issue before it causes a bad plan?

understanding that master data ownership is a real operational responsibility, not paperwork

How do you typically approach a monthly KPI review? Walk me through what you look at and how you decide what's worth a corrective action versus noise.

analytical rigor and judgment about which metric movements actually warrant intervention

What's your comfort level with Excel for this kind of work, maybe pivot tables, lookups, that kind of thing, and can you describe a specific analysis you built?

verifying claimed Excel proficiency with a concrete example rather than a self-rating

Situational

Say your case fill is dropping for one SKU cluster and inventory is climbing at the same time. How would you go about root causing that?

structured root cause analysis skills and ability to reconcile two KPIs that seem to point in different directions

If an external manufacturer tells you they can't hit a production date you were counting on, what do you do in the next 24 hours?

triage instincts and stakeholder communication under a real time-pressured supply disruption

Imagine you're juggling three urgent requests at once: an inventory escalation, a monthly Step 3 input deadline, and a stakeholder asking for an ad hoc analysis. How do you decide what comes first?

prioritization under competing demands and pressure, a named requirement in the posting
