Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

The posting will consider a new graduate with an NCLEX date. If that is you, what worries you most about this unit?

What they are checking: The posting says so directly, and an honest answer from a new graduate is the useful one.

Three twelve hour shifts, seven to half past seven, rotating weekends and holidays. How does that fit your life?

What they are checking: The posting states the pattern precisely.

Tell me about a patient you recognized was deteriorating before the numbers showed it.

What they are checking: Clinical instinct described concretely rather than claimed.

Tell me about a time you questioned an order.

What they are checking: Whether they will speak up, which is the most protective thing a nurse does.

What would you do

The posting says the nurse leads efforts to create the safest patient environment. What does that look like on a busy floor?

What they are checking: The posting uses those words, and this asks what they cost in practice.

About the work

This is a forty-six bed medical telemetry and dialysis unit. Tell me about caring for dialysis patients.

What they are checking: The posting names dialysis alongside telemetry, which is an unusual combination.

What do you watch for in a patient before and after dialysis?

What they are checking: Fluid and electrolyte shifts around dialysis are what makes these patients unstable.

Which rhythms would make you act immediately, and what would you do?

What they are checking: Telemetry is half the unit's name, and electrolyte problems drive arrhythmia here.

Walk me through how you plan a twelve hour day with a full assignment on a forty-six bed unit.

What they are checking: The posting states the unit size, and prioritization is what makes the day work.

Where are you with your ACLS?

What they are checking: The posting requires ACLS or obtaining it within three months.
