What they are checking: Initiative in improving workflow, which is much of what a lead nurse is expected to do.

How do you balance your own patient care tasks with being pulled in every direction as the go-to person?

What they are checking: Whether they can prioritize and delegate well rather than becoming a bottleneck for the whole clinic.

What would you do

A pregnant patient calls saying she has a headache and some swelling at 34 weeks. What do you ask and what do you tell her?

What they are checking: Whether they recognize possible preeclampsia and send the patient for evaluation rather than reassuring her.

You're the lead and two medical assistants are in conflict that's slowing down clinic flow. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can address team friction directly and fairly without needing a manager to step in.

A provider asks you to do something you think is outside the medical assistants' scope. What do you do?

What they are checking: Clear knowledge of scope of practice and the backbone to protect staff and patients from it being stretched.

How do you talk with a patient who just got an abnormal result and is scared?

What they are checking: Calm, clear communication that informs the patient without overstepping what the provider should explain.

What would you want to learn in your first month about how this Women's Center runs before changing anything?

What they are checking: Whether they respect existing workflows and build trust before pushing change as a new lead.

About the work

What does a typical day of triage phone calls look like in a women's health clinic, and how do you decide what needs to be seen today?

What they are checking: Sound phone triage judgment for OB and GYN concerns, where missing a red flag has real consequences.

How do you stay current on women's health guidelines like prenatal screening schedules and cervical cancer screening?

What they are checking: Whether they take ownership of being the clinical resource others rely on for up-to-date answers.
