Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time a patient's condition changed suddenly during or right after a procedure. What did you do first?

real experience with rapid clinical deterioration and whether they stayed calm and followed protocol

Tell me about a time you had to de-escalate an agitated or confused patient, maybe someone coming out of anesthesia or in pain.

comfort with verbal de-escalation and safe patient handling, called out explicitly in the posting

Tell me about a time you disagreed with a physician's plan for a patient. How did you handle it?

willingness to advocate for patient safety while maintaining a working relationship with proceduralists

Have you worked on-call rotations before, and how do you manage the unpredictability of being paged nights or weekends?

realistic expectations and past reliability with call schedules similar to the every-9th-weekend and biweekly night call here

Technical

Walk me through how you'd manage a patient coming out of moderate sedation after a GI procedure, from the moment they arrive in recovery.

whether the candidate knows standard post-sedation monitoring, discharge criteria, and airway vigilance

What's your process for monitoring a patient during moderate or IV sedation, and what would make you stop the procedure and call the physician in?

depth of hands-on sedation monitoring experience and judgment about escalation thresholds

How familiar are you with high-level disinfection standards for endoscope reprocessing, and have you done that work yourself?

direct exposure to scope cleaning protocols since the unit includes reprocessing duties

Describe your experience with pre-procedure assessment for both GI and pain management patients. What are you screening for before they go back?

whether they can handle the dual-specialty scope of this unit, not just standard endoscopy prep

What's your experience working with geriatric patients specifically around sedation risk and recovery time?

awareness that older adults metabolize sedation differently and need adjusted monitoring

What does a safe patient handoff look like to you when a patient moves from the procedure room to recovery?

attention to communication and documentation standards that prevent errors during transitions

Situational

You're on call and get paged at 2 a.m. for an urgent GI bleed case. Walk me through what happens between the page and you being ready at the bedside.

whether they understand the 40-minute call response expectation and can mentally rehearse logistics under pressure

This unit runs 28 pre- and post-op bays with only three procedure rooms and two pain rooms. How do you prioritize when several patients need attention at once?

ability to triage and manage a high patient-to-room ratio typical of a busy procedural unit

How do you stay organized when you're bouncing between pre-op, intra-procedure support, and post-op recovery in the same shift?

whether they can handle the rotating, multi-role nature of the job beyond one fixed station
