Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
Tell me about a time a procedure fell apart because of a missed prep or scheduling step. What did you change afterward?
What they are checking: Whether they learn from coordination failures and build checks so the same miss does not happen twice.
Tell me about a time you had to push another department to get a patient seen sooner. How did you make the case?
What they are checking: Whether they advocate firmly and professionally with clinical facts rather than frustration.
What would you do
A patient calls two days after an EUS with fine needle aspiration and reports worsening upper abdominal pain and nausea. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they suspect post-procedure pancreatitis or perforation and escalate rather than offering reassurance over the phone.
A patient says they couldn't finish their bowel prep and asks if they should still come in. How do you respond?
What they are checking: Whether they gather the right details and involve the provider rather than guessing about a decision that affects procedure quality.
How do you explain a new diagnosis like a pancreatic mass finding to a patient who calls asking what their results mean?
What they are checking: Whether they stay within nursing scope while still being kind and making sure the patient gets a timely provider conversation.
Providers here lean on you to keep their schedules full and safe. How do you handle it when a provider wants to add a case you think isn't ready?
What they are checking: Whether they can raise readiness concerns to a physician directly while still respecting the provider's final call.
About the work
This role supports Interventional GI providers. Walk me through how you'd prep a patient for an ERCP from the first phone call to the day of the procedure.
What they are checking: Whether they know anticoagulant holds, NPO rules, sedation needs and ride requirements that prevent same-day cancellations.
How do you manage a patient on apixaban or clopidogrel who is scheduled for a polypectomy or stent placement?
What they are checking: Whether they know to coordinate with the prescriber on holding and bridging rather than giving blanket instructions.
You coordinate additional testing and appointments with internal departments. How do you keep track of a dozen patients with pending CT scans, labs and consults?
What they are checking: Whether they have a reliable tracking system so nothing slips, since lost follow-up is a common harm in specialty clinics.
What post-operative warning signs do you teach every GI procedure patient before they go home?
What they are checking: Whether they consistently cover fever, bleeding, severe pain and vomiting so patients know when to call or go to the ED.
