Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time an image came out unusable. What did you do about it?

What they are checking: Whether they own repeats, find the cause, and avoid exposing the patient twice for the same mistake.

Tell me about a time you noticed something on a patient that worried you, even though it was not your job to diagnose it.

What they are checking: Whether they speak up through the right channel when they see something urgent, without overstepping.

Why do you want to do radiology in a rehabilitation hospital instead of an acute care hospital?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the slower, more hands-on patient population and actually want to work with it.

What would you do

You go to bring a patient down for an X-ray and they have a trach, a feeding tube and an IV. What do you check before you move them?

What they are checking: Whether they coordinate with nursing and respect lines and airways during transport instead of rushing.

A patient with a brain injury becomes confused and agitated on the table. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Calm, patient-centered behavior with cognitively impaired patients and knowing when to stop and get help.

This role also covers clerical work and transport. How do you keep the schedule moving when you are the one doing all three?

What they are checking: Whether they can run a small department's flow without letting paperwork or patient waits slide.

How do you explain an exam to a frightened family member who wants to stay in the room?

What they are checking: Clear, kind communication paired with firm radiation safety for people who are not the patient.

About the work

Many of our patients have spinal cord injuries, strokes or brain injuries and can't move themselves. How do you position someone for a chest or hip film when they can't help you?

What they are checking: Whether they can get a usable image while protecting a fragile patient from falls, skin damage and pain.

Walk me through how you confirm you have the right patient and the right exam before you take a single image.

What they are checking: Whether patient identification is a fixed habit, since a wrong-patient image is a serious and reportable error.

How do you keep radiation dose as low as you can while still getting an image the radiologist can read?

What they are checking: Real understanding of ALARA, technique factors and collimation rather than reciting the acronym.

What do you do to make sure your equipment is safe and working before your first patient of the day?

What they are checking: Ownership of quality control and equipment checks instead of assuming someone else did them.
