Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you used customer or market data to spot a problem or opportunity with a product before it became obvious to others.

whether the candidate proactively works with data rather than waiting for issues to surface

Describe a product business case or pitch you built from scratch. What did you include to convince leadership it was worth doing?

ability to build a credible, data-backed case for investment

Tell me about a time a product initiative you led didn't get the results you expected. What did you do next?

resilience and whether they learn from underperformance instead of hiding it

Describe a time you had to explain a technical or financial concept, like pricing strategy or profitability data, to a non-technical audience such as sales or branch staff.

communication skills across different audiences

Tell me about a situation where you had to say no to a stakeholder's request, maybe a sales leader wanting a rate exception or a new feature that wasn't feasible.

ability to push back diplomatically while protecting product integrity

Technical

Walk me through a deposit product you've managed or studied, like a savings account or CD. How would you decide whether to adjust pricing to improve growth or profitability?

whether the candidate understands the trade-off between rate competitiveness and margin in deposit products

What's your process for making sure a new deposit feature or pricing change actually meets regulatory and compliance requirements before it goes live?

awareness of compliance obligations in a regulated banking environment

How do you think about the difference between growing new account volume and deepening existing customer relationships, and which would you prioritize for a mature product like a savings account?

strategic thinking about retention versus acquisition in deposit banking

What metrics would you watch monthly to know whether the deposit portfolio is healthy, and what would make you flag something to leadership right away?

fluency with the specific KPIs that matter for deposit product performance

Situational

Say you noticed money market balances at Associated Bank were quietly draining to a competitor's online savings product. How would you figure out why and what would you propose?

structured problem-solving and competitive awareness specific to deposit products

How would you approach a product launch that requires coordination across Retail, Marketing, Finance, and Technology, especially if two of those teams disagree on priorities?

cross-functional influence and conflict management without formal authority

If a branch or call center team told you customers were confused about how a CD's early withdrawal penalty worked, what would you do with that feedback?

how they translate frontline feedback into product or communication fixes
