Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time a case didn't go the way you planned in the OR. What happened and what did you do?

composure under pressure and honesty about complications, not just success stories

Since this is a PRN role covering call and weekend shifts across a busy surgical department, how do you keep your skills sharp for cases you might only see occasionally?

self-directed maintenance of competency in a low-frequency, high-stakes schedule

Tell me about a time you had to respond to a Code Blue or airway emergency. What was your role and how did it resolve?

real crisis experience with airway management and teamwork under pressure

Tell me about a time you disagreed with a supervising surgeon or attending about a patient's readiness for anesthesia or a step in the plan. How did you handle it?

ability to advocate for patient safety while maintaining a working relationship with physicians

Have you precepted or taught student nurse anesthetists before, and what's your approach to teaching in a live OR setting?

fit for the possible clinical instructor duties mentioned in the posting

Technical

Walk me through how you'd handle a patient who becomes hemodynamically unstable right after induction.

whether the candidate has a calm, structured emergency response and knows when to escalate to the surgeon

How do you decide when a case needs general anesthesia versus regional or monitored anesthesia care, and who else weighs in on that decision?

clinical judgment and collaboration with the surgical team on anesthesia planning

Walk me through your process for narcotic accounting and how you'd handle a discrepancy you noticed in the count.

integrity and rigor around controlled substance tracking, a strict compliance area

How do you adjust your anesthesia approach for a pediatric patient versus a geriatric one?

depth of age-specific clinical knowledge across the lifespan, as the posting requires

Situational

How do you approach your pre-anesthesia assessment when the surgeon or floor team hasn't given you a complete picture of the patient?

independence and thoroughness in verifying patient readiness rather than assuming someone else checked

Say you're covering labor analgesia in the Birth Day Center and get called to a Code Blue on another floor at the same time. What do you do?

prioritization and communication when pulled between competing urgent responsibilities

What would you do if you were doing your equipment check before a case and found something wasn't working properly with no time to spare before the scheduled start?

whether patient safety takes priority over schedule pressure

This role can mean 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts with 24/7 call coverage on a PRN basis. How do you manage fatigue and stay sharp during long or unpredictable shifts?

realistic self-awareness about sustaining performance in a demanding, irregular schedule
