Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about tuning current and speed loops on real hardware. What went wrong and how did you fix it?

What they are checking: Hands-on tuning experience beyond simulation.

How do you work with motor and power electronics engineers to get the best system performance?

What they are checking: Whole-system thinking across motor, inverter and control.

Tell me about mentoring someone on motor control.

What they are checking: Ability to teach a specialized skill to grow the team.

What would you do

A user complains a tool feels jerky at low trigger. How do you approach it?

What they are checking: Connecting control behavior to what the user feels in hand.

How do you prove a control algorithm is robust across temperature, battery state and motor variation?

What they are checking: Thorough validation across the real operating range.

About the work

Explain how field-oriented control works for a brushless motor, and when you would use it instead of six-step control.

What they are checking: Deep motor control knowledge and practical judgment about control methods for tools.

How do you estimate rotor position without sensors, especially at low speed?

What they are checking: Sensorless control expertise and its limits at startup and stall.

How do you protect the motor and electronics when a tool stalls or binds under load?

What they are checking: Protection strategies that keep users safe and hardware intact.

How do you use modeling tools like MATLAB or Simulink before writing control code?

What they are checking: Model-based design habits that reduce risk on hardware.

What limits how fast your control loop can run, and how do you work within them?
