Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a heat treatment or pasteurization process you optimized. What did you change and how did you validate it?

What they are checking: Whether they have real depth in thermal processing and know changes need validation for food safety.

You'll work with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Reliability, Controls, Operations Excellence and Supply Chain. Tell me about a time you led a technical change across that many groups.

What they are checking: Whether they can lead through influence across many functions as a subject matter expert.

How do you explain an advanced technical issue, like a standardization problem, to a plant manager who needs to make a decision?

What they are checking: Whether they can translate depth into a clear choice with risks, not lose the audience in detail.

Tell me about a time you set engineering strategy for capacity rather than just solving the problem in front of you.

What they are checking: Whether they operate at the principal level, shaping multi-year direction for processing lines.

How do you mentor less experienced process engineers across different plants?

What they are checking: Whether they share knowledge and raise the skill of others, which a principal role is expected to do.

What would you do

This role is fully remote while supporting plants. How do you build trust and stay effective with operators and plant engineers you rarely see in person?

What they are checking: Whether they have real ways to stay connected to the floor and avoid becoming an engineer who only reads reports.

About the work

Walk me through how you'd assess the capability of a dairy blending and standardization system you've never seen.

What they are checking: Whether they have a structured, data-driven approach to understanding an upstream process before changing it.

How do you think about the tradeoffs in membrane filtration, like flux, fouling and cleaning frequency?

What they are checking: Whether they understand filtration well enough to balance throughput against sanitation and cost.

How do you design or improve a CIP program so it's effective without wasting water, chemicals and production time?

What they are checking: Whether they can tune sanitation as a process while never trading away food safety.

A plant sees inconsistent fat and solids in finished product. How would you track down where the variation starts?

What they are checking: Whether they trace variation upstream through raw milk, standardization and blending using data rather than guessing.

How do you use process hazard analysis and food safety plans when proposing a process change?

What they are checking: Whether they build process safety and food safety review into changes from the start.
