Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a delivery that went badly. What happened, and what did you do afterward with the patient and the team?

What they are checking: How they handle adverse outcomes, disclosure and debriefing, which shapes trust with patients and staff.

We encourage physicians to take part in medical education and research. What would you want to contribute there?

What they are checking: Whether they have real interest in teaching or research rather than giving a polite yes.

Tell me about a time you disagreed with a colleague about a patient's plan. How was it settled?

What they are checking: Whether they can disagree openly and professionally in a small group that has to share call.

What draws you to practicing in western Wisconsin, and what would keep you here long term?

What they are checking: Fit and staying power in a smaller community, since turnover hurts an established practice.

What would you do

This practice has a strong CNM group. How do you like to work with certified nurse midwives, and when do you expect them to call you?

What they are checking: Whether they respect midwifery practice and have clear, safe escalation expectations rather than a turf mindset.

You would be covering Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls and Ladysmith. How do you handle a high-risk patient who lives an hour from the hospital?

What they are checking: Whether they plan ahead for distance and transfer in rural obstetrics instead of assuming urban resources are close by.

The clinic averages 10 to 15 patients a day. How do you keep visits thorough while staying on time?

What they are checking: Whether they can run an efficient clinic without rushing counseling or missing important history.

About the work

Walk me through how you manage a postpartum hemorrhage from the first sign to stabilization.

What they are checking: Command of an obstetric emergency, including team activation and the order of interventions under pressure.

How do you counsel a patient on a trial of labor after cesarean versus a repeat cesarean?

What they are checking: Whether they share risks clearly and respect patient choice within what the facility can safely support.

What gynecologic surgery do you do comfortably, and where would you want a partner or referral?

What they are checking: An honest picture of their surgical scope, which matters for building a schedule and team coverage.
