Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through how you'd approach your first day at a clinic you've never worked in before, with a full caseload already scheduled.

whether the candidate can adapt quickly to unfamiliar environments and teams without disrupting patient care

Tell me about a time you had to evaluate and treat a patient with a condition or in a specialty area you don't see often.

breadth of clinical competency across musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and integumentary cases since floats can't specialize

Tell me about a patient whose treatment plan wasn't working the way you expected. How did you recognize it and what did you change?

ability to monitor outcomes and adjust care based on patient response, a core listed responsibility

Describe a time you had to give feedback to a coworker, or receive feedback yourself, about patient care.

willingness to participate in peer evaluation and improvement processes as expected of team members

Tell me about a time a patient was frustrated or anxious about their progress. How did you handle that conversation?

interpersonal skill and attentiveness to psychosocial needs, which the posting explicitly calls out

Technical

How would you go about learning a new clinic's documentation system, billing process, and scheduling software on short notice?

comfort with different EMR and administrative systems since float therapists rotate across sites with different setups

How do you decide when a patient is ready for discharge, and what does your discharge process typically include?

understanding of discharge planning, home programs, and coordination with community services

Insurance authorizations often cap visit numbers. How do you plan treatment when you know you only have a limited number of sessions to work with?

practical knowledge of applying insurance guidelines to treatment planning

How do you approach treating patients across a wide age range, from pediatric to geriatric, especially when you might not know a patient's history walking in?

competency with age-specific care standards mentioned in the job description

What's your experience with manual techniques like joint mobilization, and how do you decide when modalities like ultrasound or e-stim are appropriate versus contraindicated?

hands-on clinical skill and safety judgment with treatment modalities

Situational

This float role means driving between Manitowoc, Sheboygan, and potentially Fond du Lac. How do you think about managing your time and energy when your schedule and location change week to week, or even day to day?

realistic expectations about the demands of a float position and logistical planning ability

A physician refers a patient to you and the referral is vague or seems inconsistent with what you find on evaluation. What do you do?

clinical judgment and comfort communicating with referring physicians to clarify or correct a plan of care

If you showed up to a clinic and found the regular staff was short-handed and asking you to take on extra patients beyond what you'd planned, how would you handle that conversation?

boundary-setting and communication skills around caseload and coverage, since floats are relied on for flexible coverage
