Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This is a Monday through Friday evening clinical pharmacist role focused on consults, reports and code response. What's your experience in each of those?

What they are checking: Whether their background matches the evening clinical work they will actually be doing, largely without daytime backup.

Tell me about a time you called a prescriber about an order you thought was wrong and they pushed back.

What they are checking: Whether they can hold a patient-safety concern firmly and respectfully, and know when to escalate.

How do you explain a medication change to a patient who's anxious and has low health literacy?

What they are checking: Whether they can translate drug information into plain words a patient can act on.

Tell me about a time you supervised technicians and caught an error before it reached a patient.

What they are checking: Whether they own the final check and use errors to improve the process instead of assigning blame.

What committee or workgroup have you contributed to, and what changed because of it?

What they are checking: Whether they contribute beyond verification, as the posting expects participation in rounds and committees.

Residency is preferred here. How did your training or work experience prepare you to make independent clinical decisions?

What they are checking: Whether they can show sound independent judgment whether or not they completed a residency.

What would you do

A nurse calls asking whether two IV drugs can run through the same line. How do you answer quickly and correctly?

What they are checking: Whether they use reliable compatibility references and give a clear answer instead of guessing under time pressure.

You're the only pharmacist on in the evening and the order queue is backing up while consults are waiting. How do you prioritize?

What they are checking: Whether they triage by clinical urgency, such as STAT and first doses, and communicate delays honestly.

About the work

Walk me through how you verify a new order. What are you checking, and in what order?

What they are checking: Whether they have a disciplined verification habit covering dose, allergies, interactions, renal function and appropriateness.

You're paged to a code. What is your role, and which drugs and doses do you want ready?

What they are checking: Whether they know ACLS pharmacology and can function calmly as part of a resuscitation team.

How do you approach a pharmacokinetic consult for vancomycin in a patient with changing renal function?

What they are checking: Whether they can dose and monitor a narrow-therapeutic drug safely as the patient's condition shifts.
