Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
This schedule is evenings plus every other weekend. Tell me how that fits your life and how you've handled a set schedule like this before.
What they are checking: Whether they will reliably show up for short evening and weekend shifts that are hard to cover.
Tell me about a time you had to ask someone for money they didn't expect to owe.
What they are checking: Whether they can collect payments with tact while keeping the patient's trust.
Tell me about a time a patient was upset before they even reached you. How did you turn it around?
What they are checking: Whether they stay kind and steady with people who are sick, worried or frustrated.
If you speak a second language, tell me about a time you used it to help someone. If you don't, how do you work with an interpreter?
What they are checking: Whether they know how to communicate accurately with patients who are not comfortable in English.
What would you do
A patient's insurance card shows a plan that comes back inactive. What do you say to them?

It's 7 p.m., you're the only one at the desk, and three people are waiting while the phone rings. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they can triage a line calmly when no supervisor is nearby to help.
About the work
Walk me through how you register a new patient from greeting to the moment they leave your desk.
What they are checking: Whether they know registration as a sequence of checks, not just typing in a name and date of birth.
How do you confirm you have the right patient before you touch their account?
What they are checking: Whether they use two identifiers every time, because a merged or wrong chart creates billing and safety problems.
What's the difference between a copay, a deductible and coinsurance, the way you'd explain it to a patient?
What they are checking: Whether they understand insurance basics well enough to explain them in plain words at the front desk.
How do you keep your data entry accurate when you're moving fast?
What they are checking: Whether they have real habits for catching typos, since a wrong digit in a policy number leads to a denied claim.
