Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

CAAHEP requires an annual report, a RAM, and a self-study, all with hard deadlines. Tell me about a time you managed a similar accreditation or compliance process with multiple moving parts.

track record with the specific administrative burden of accreditation, and whether they can hit regulatory deadlines without hand-holding

Tell me about a time you had to work through a disagreement with a medical director or physician about how a topic should be taught or a policy should be set.

ability to manage the required cooperative relationship with a medical director without conflict avoidance or overreach

Tell me about a student who was struggling in your program. What did you do, and how did it turn out?

adult-learning skill and whether they can balance compassion with maintaining clinical competency standards

Tell me about the last time you had to maintain your own certifications, like ACLS, PALS, or PHTLS instructor status, while also running a program. How did you keep that from slipping?

personal organization and follow-through on the 24-hour accountability and multiple licensure requirements of the role

Technical

Walk me through how you would design the curriculum for a paramedic program from the ground up, covering the didactic, clinical, psychomotor, and affective pieces.

whether the candidate actually understands the full scope of curriculum design required for CAAHEP accreditation, not just classroom teaching

How have you measured whether a training program is actually working, beyond pass rates on the NREMT exam?

whether they understand outcome measurement and continuous quality improvement, not just test scores

Describe how you would design and deliver an annual preceptor training session.

concrete experience training the trainers, a specific named duty in this role

How do you run the admissions process each year, from application through interview to final selection?

whether they have a real, defensible selection process versus an ad hoc one

What does the Program Advisory Board meeting actually accomplish, in your experience, and what have you brought to one to get real input rather than a rubber stamp?

whether they grasp the purpose of the advisory board requirement or just see it as a box to check

Situational

Say a site visit or annual report review turns up a gap in your program's compliance with CAAHEP or state of Illinois standards. What do you do first, and what do you do in the following weeks?

how they triage a compliance problem and whether they have a real corrective-action process versus panic or denial

You're running clinical rotations across hospital sites and prehospital internship sites at the same time as teaching classes three days a week. How do you keep quality control over instructors and preceptors you're not directly watching?

ability to build oversight systems for delegated responsibility rather than relying on personal presence

Picture a semester where enrollment is down and a key contracted faculty member quits mid-course. How do you keep the program running without sacrificing quality?

resourcefulness and prioritization under a staffing and business pressure that's common in small programs

How would you handle a hospital administrator pushing back on resources you say the program needs to maintain accreditation?

ability to advocate for the program's needs upward while managing an administrative relationship, not just downward with students
