Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a call where you had to make a quick decision about advanced life support before you had all the information you wanted. What did you do?

whether the candidate can act decisively under clinical uncertainty and explain their reasoning afterward

Tell me about a time you had to work under the direction of an RN or physician on a case and you saw the patient's condition changing faster than expected. How did you handle communicating that?

comfort operating in a hospital-based hierarchy while still advocating for the patient in real time

Tell me about a time you had to give medication in the field and something about the process didn't go as planned. What happened and how did you document it?

accountability around medication administration, waste, and documentation given the strict controlled-substance tracking this job requires

Describe a shift where you had back-to-back calls with little recovery time. How did you manage your energy and attention to detail so care didn't slip?

stamina and error-prevention under the fatigue that comes with call rotation and variable start times

What made you want to move into a program that pushes toward critical care transport and advanced skills like reading labs, CTs, and X-rays, instead of staying in a standard EMS role?

genuine motivation for the hospital-based, advanced-scope nature of this specific program versus a generic 911 job

Technical

How do you approach a pediatric emergency differently than an adult one, given your PALS or ENPC training?

whether age-specific care knowledge is real and applied, not just a certification on paper

What's your process for handing off a patient from the field to the ED team here, especially since this program has you working alongside physicians and nurses through discharge?

understanding of the continuity-of-care model unique to this hospital-based ambulance program

How do you keep your own driving and vehicle operation safe when you're responding lights and sirens, especially in weather or rural road conditions around Marinette?

judgment and discipline around safe driving practice, which the posting flags directly with the clean driving record requirement

Situational

This role covers a 500 square mile radius with call volume over 6,000 a year, and you may be on a critical care transport to a higher level of care. How would you prepare for a long transport where things could go wrong far from backup?

planning and self-sufficiency for rural, high-acreage EMS coverage with limited immediate support

You're on a Paramedic intercept call and the crew that called for you has a different read on the patient than you do. What do you do?

conflict resolution and clinical judgment when working alongside another EMS crew rather than solo

Tell me about a time your rig or a piece of equipment failed on you mid-shift. What did you do in the moment and afterward?

troubleshooting ability and follow-through on equipment maintenance and reporting

If you noticed a coworker cutting corners on a safety precaution, like not following standard precautions around blood or body fluids, what would you do?

willingness to hold peers accountable on safety without waiting for a supervisor to catch it
