Tell me about a time you worked with an injured employee who wasn't progressing the way the treatment plan predicted. What did you do?

ability to translate clinical information for different stakeholders without contradicting themselves

Tell me about a case where you hit a barrier to getting the employee timely care, maybe an insurance issue, a scheduling gap, or a reluctant specialist. How did you push it forward?

persistence and problem-solving under systems that aren't fully in their control

Tell me about a time you had to negotiate a care plan among several parties who disagreed, like the family, the physician, and maybe a third-party payer.

actual working knowledge of workers' comp versus general case management experience

How do you decide when to recommend modified duty versus continued time off, and how do you communicate that recommendation to the physician?

clinical reasoning specific to occupational injury and comfort making disposition recommendations

How do you keep track of outcomes and utilization data across your caseload, and what have you done with that data once you had it?

whether they actually engage with the reporting and data side of the role, not just the clinical side

What's your experience holding an RN license in more than one state, and how do you stay current on the different regulations if that applies to you?

practical readiness for the dual WI/IL licensure requirement of this specific role

Situational

Walk me through how you'd manage a caseload of injured workers spread across multiple Occ Health locations in Wisconsin and Illinois, mostly remote, with occasional in-person client visits.

whether the candidate can organize a dispersed, multi-site caseload without dropping follow-up or losing track of patients

How do you approach a case where the treating physician's recommendation doesn't line up with what you think will get the employee back to work safely and quickly?

how they navigate disagreement with providers while staying within their scope and maintaining the relationship

If an employer contacts you frustrated that an employee has been out longer than expected, how do you handle that conversation?

communication skills under pressure and ability to hold a professional line with a demanding stakeholder

You're managing patients ranging from a young warehouse worker to an older tradesperson nearing retirement. How does your approach to their recovery differ?

understanding of age-specific care needs, which the posting calls out explicitly
