realistic self-awareness about physical stamina and honesty about the job's demands

Technical

Walk me through how you'd set up your sterile field and instrument tray for a scheduled cesarean section.

whether the candidate actually knows OB surgical setups and can speak concretely, not just recite the job posting language

How do you keep a sterile field intact when there are multiple people moving around fast during a delivery?

depth of understanding of aseptic technique under real, chaotic conditions rather than textbook conditions

What's your process for keeping the unit stocked and ready for any type of emergency during a shift?

organizational habits and whether they think proactively about readiness rather than reactively

What do you know about the differences in setup between a vacuum extraction and a forceps delivery?

specific procedural knowledge relevant to the exact duties listed in the posting

A vaginal delivery you're assisting with suddenly turns into an emergency situation needing an abdominal hysterectomy. What's going through your head and what do you do?

ability to shift gears quickly during an obstetric emergency without freezing or losing track of sterile technique

You notice the surgical supply cart is missing an instrument right before a case starts. What do you do?

problem-solving and composure when a gap in preparation threatens to delay or disrupt a procedure

How would you explain what's happening to a patient's family member during a fast-moving delivery, when you have thirty seconds to talk to them?

communication skills with anxious family members under time constraints

If you saw a coworker breaking sterile technique during a procedure, what would you do right then?

willingness to speak up for patient safety even when it might create friction with a peer
