Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to scrub in on a procedure that suddenly changed, like a vaginal delivery that turned into an emergency C-section.

how the candidate handles rapid shifts in a sterile procedure without breaking technique or composure

Tell me about a time you noticed a supply or instrument was missing or wrong right before or during a procedure. What did you do?

attentiveness to stock readiness and calm problem-solving mid-procedure

Describe a time you had to train or walk a newer tech or nurse through equipment or a procedure setup.

whether they can serve as the resource role the job requires, not just perform tasks themselves

Tell me about a time you had to give a provider or RN accurate, timely information about a patient's condition during a fast-moving situation.

clarity and reliability of communication when things are happening quickly and mistakes carry real risk

Tell me about a moment you disagreed with how a colleague or provider was handling equipment or a setup step. How did you raise it?

willingness to speak up on patient safety issues while respecting the team hierarchy in a surgical setting

Technical

Walk me through how you set up and maintain a sterile field for a cesarean section from start to finish.

whether the candidate actually knows aseptic technique and OR setup sequence, not just the vocabulary

What's different about how you'd set up for a vacuum extraction versus a forceps delivery versus a D&C?

depth of procedural knowledge across the range of OB procedures listed, not just familiarity with one

How do you decide what to restock and check between cases so the unit is ready for whatever comes through the door?

understanding of emergency readiness and inventory discipline specific to a labor and delivery unit

How would your approach to comfort and ADL care differ for a teenage mother versus an older patient with a high-risk pregnancy?

grasp of age-specific and developmental care principles required across the patient population

Situational

You're on call and get pulled in at 2 a.m. for an emergency OB-related hysterectomy. What are you doing in the first ten minutes?

ability to move quickly and correctly under pressure with an unfamiliar, high-stakes emergency setup

A patient in active labor is anxious and in pain while you're also needed to help prep for another delivery down the hall. How do you handle both?

prioritization and multitasking under competing patient needs, which the posting specifically flags

This role involves every third weekend and on-call rotations. What's your experience working that kind of schedule, and how do you manage the unpredictability of on-call?

realistic fit with the shift demands and honesty about reliability under an unpredictable schedule

The job involves lifting up to 50 pounds, sliding transfers with a second person, and being on your feet for long stretches. How have you handled the physical demands of a similar role?

whether the candidate has a realistic sense of the physical toll and has sustained it before
