Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time your test results didn't match the simulation. What did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they dig into the gap and learn from it instead of trusting one side blindly.

How do you explain NVH results to engineers who aren't specialists?

What they are checking: Whether they can turn complex frequency data into clear design actions.

Tell me about a time you worked with design teams to change a part based on your findings.

What they are checking: Whether they can influence design decisions and see changes through to the product.

What would you do

Home generators sit near houses and neighbors. How would you approach reducing their sound level?

What they are checking: Whether they understand how sound affects customers and can weigh enclosure, mufflers and mounts.

A vibration failure is cracking a bracket in the field. How would you investigate?

What they are checking: Whether they link vibration data to fatigue and durability, not just noise.

About the work

Walk me through an NVH problem you solved on an engine, generator or similar machine.

What they are checking: Whether they have taken a real noise or vibration problem from measurement to fix.

How do you find the source of a noise when several components could be causing it?

What they are checking: Whether they use tools like order tracking, transfer path analysis or modal testing to isolate sources.

Which test equipment and software have you used, like accelerometers, microphones and analysis packages?

What they are checking: Whether they can set up and run measurements themselves and trust their data.

How do you use FEA or modal analysis to predict vibration before a prototype exists?

What they are checking: Whether they can catch resonance problems in design rather than after hardware is built.

How do you balance noise reduction against cost, weight and cooling?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that NVH fixes affect other design goals like airflow and price.
