Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time a patient was scared or confused about having an EEG done. How did you get them through it?

patient communication skill and bedside manner with a vulnerable, sometimes pediatric or elderly population

Tell me about a time your equipment failed or gave you bad readings mid-study. What did you do?

troubleshooting process and knowing when to escalate to biomed or manufacturer support versus fixing it themselves

Tell me about the most complex EEG or monitoring case you've been part of, maybe an EMU admission or a WADA test. What was your specific role?

depth of exposure to advanced procedures listed as possible duties, and honesty about scope

Part of this job involves gathering a patient's neurological history before you even start the test. Tell me about a time incomplete or unclear history changed how you approached a study.

whether the candidate treats history-gathering as clinically important rather than a formality

Technical

Walk me through how you set up and apply electrodes for a routine EEG, from measuring the head to checking impedance before you start recording.

whether the candidate actually knows the 10-20 system and standard technical workflow, not just the vocabulary

Say you're recording an EEG and you start seeing artifact you can't immediately explain, muscle, electrode, or something else. What do you do in the moment?

ability to recognize and troubleshoot artifact live rather than just document it after the fact

This role covers a lot of ground, routine EEGs, ambulatory monitoring, maybe EMU, evoked potentials, even assisting in the OR for stereo EEG placement. What have you actually done hands-on, and where are you still building experience?

honest self-assessment of scope of practice against the wide range this posting lists

How do you approach a study differently for a newborn versus an elderly patient with dementia?

depth of age-specific competency mentioned in the posting, not just awareness that it matters

Which of the ABRET or related certifications do you currently hold, R EEG T, R.EP T., CNIM, RPSGT, CLTM, and what's your plan for any you don't have yet?

straightforward credential verification against the required licensure list

Situational

If a physician asks you to run a montage or activation procedure that isn't standard for the case in front of you, how do you decide whether to push back or just do it?

judgment about when to defer to clinical authority versus advocate for the patient or the study's integrity

This is a PRN role, so your schedule could mean working across different units or even different sites with little notice. How do you handle that kind of unpredictability?

realistic fit with per diem, on-call work style and flexibility expectations

If you're assisting a physician in the OR during a stereo EEG implantation and something about the setup doesn't look right to you, what do you do?

comfort speaking up in a high-stakes, physician-led environment

This role can require lifting up to 50 pounds, sliding transfers with a second person, and travel between sites. Is there anything about those physical demands you want to talk through?

realistic understanding of and ability to meet the physical requirements of the job
