Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a time you had to pull data from a messy or incomplete dataset and turn it into something a business person could actually use.

whether the candidate has real experience with data cleansing and translating raw numbers into a usable insight, not just running queries

Tell me about a project where you had to combine data from multiple sources, maybe survey data, spreadsheets, or a database, into one clean report.

experience handling data governance and integration challenges similar to what this role involves

Describe a time you had to present findings or a recommendation to someone more senior than you. How did you prepare, and how did it go?

comfort and skill communicating analytical insight to leadership, since the role ends with a presentation to leadership

Tell me about a time you had to manage more than one project or deadline at once. How did you decide what to prioritize?

organizational skill and ability to juggle multiple workstreams as the posting describes

Technical

Say you're asked to write a SQL query that joins sales data from two different tables, one with customer regions and one with product sales, and the counts don't match up. How would you figure out what's going wrong?

practical SQL troubleshooting skill and whether they understand data validation, not just syntax

How would you build a dashboard in Tableau or Power BI to track lead conversion trends across different sales regions for someone who has never used either tool?

actual hands-on familiarity with the specific visualization tools named in the posting versus surface-level exposure

What is an example of advanced Excel work you've done, something beyond basic formulas, like pivot tables, macros, or complex lookups?

whether the claimed 'advanced Excel proficiency' holds up to specifics

Have you had any exposure to AI tools or automation in a school project or job, and what did you actually build or use them for?

how much genuine hands-on experience versus general interest they have with the Agentic AI component of the role

What coursework or project have you done that involved market research or competitive analysis, and what did you find?

whether they have any real grounding in market intelligence work versus just data analytics

Situational

If you were building a five-year forecast for a product line and the historical data showed a strange spike two years ago that doesn't fit the trend, what would you do before including it in your model?

whether they understand forecasting judgment and know to investigate outliers rather than blindly extrapolate

Imagine you're two weeks into your internship project and your manager tells you the direction has changed and they need a different analysis by Friday. How do you handle that?

adaptability and time management under shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment

If a marketing campaign report shows leads went up but sales conversions went down, how would you approach investigating why?

analytical reasoning around marketing effectiveness and lead conversion metrics specific to what this team measures

If you noticed that a recurring report you maintain had an error that had been feeding into leadership decisions for weeks, what would you do?

integrity, ownership, and understanding of how reporting accuracy affects real business decisions
