Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a school project or job where you had to dig through data and come out with a recommendation someone else actually used.

whether they can move from raw data to an actionable insight, not just produce a spreadsheet

Tell me about a time you had to organize a messy set of documents or files into something usable.

fit for the SDS documentation and seller data cleanup work, which is unglamorous but important

Describe a group project where people had different priorities and you had to get everyone pointed the same direction.

collaboration and communication skills needed to work across sales, analytics, and category management teams

Tell me about a time you found an error in your own work after you thought you were done. What did you do next.

attention to detail and honesty about mistakes, critical for compliance and audit-adjacent tasks

What's a consumer product or brand you think does a great job with online retail, and what would you copy from them if you were running Mercury's ecommerce compliance?

genuine interest in the retail and ecommerce space versus a generic internship applicant

Technical

Walk me through how comfortable you are in Excel or Power BI right now. What's the most complex thing you've built with either one.

honest self-assessment of tool skill level versus what they claimed on the resume

If you noticed a product was showing out of stock on a retail dashboard but you weren't sure if that was a real inventory issue or a data lag, how would you figure out which it was?

basic analytical rigor around distinguishing data artifacts from real business problems

What do you know about how Mercury sells through distributors like Land 'N' Sea versus selling direct, and why do you think that distinction matters for this role?

whether they did real homework on the business model, not just the company name

Have you ever worked with authorized reseller policies, MAP pricing, or anything similar? If not, how would you go about learning that quickly on the job?

baseline knowledge of AIRA-type compliance concepts and learning agility if they lack it

Situational

Say you're pulling competitive pricing data on marine parts and you notice one distributor's numbers look off compared to everyone else. What do you do before you report it up?

instinct to verify data quality before presenting conclusions, since bad inputs would undermine credibility

You've got three things due the same week: a distributor show planning update, a pricing analysis, and an AIRA compliance audit. How do you decide what gets your attention first?

prioritization skills for someone who will juggle multiple workstreams with little oversight

If a category manager asked you to build a tracking dashboard for fines or violations and gave you almost no direction, how would you start.

comfort with ambiguity and ability to structure a project independently

This internship runs full-time for a whole summer with a lot of moving pieces across teams. What makes you confident you can show up ready every day and keep multiple stakeholders happy?

realistic understanding of internship demands and stakeholder juggling, not just enthusiasm
