Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

What draws you to fluid dynamics and heat transfer?

What they are checking: The posting is explicitly for someone with a strong interest in these, and genuine interest carries an intern.

What interests you about marine propulsion specifically?

What they are checking: The posting says boating experience is not required, so interest is worth asking about rather than assumed.

This is onsite at Plant 10 in Fond du Lac, full time from May through August 2027. Does that work for you?

What they are checking: The posting states the site, the hours and the exact term.

How do you keep your work organized when you are running several projects at once?

What they are checking: Six to eight projects in one summer is the posting's own number.

Tell me about a time you got a result you did not expect. What did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they investigate or explain it away, which is the whole character of an analyst.

What would you do

How would you approach a project where you do not yet know the method?

What they are checking: The posting says interns complete six to eight varied projects, most of them new to them.

How would you present a result to an engineer who has to make a design decision from it?

What they are checking: The posting names collaborating with cross-functional teams, and analysis only counts when it is understood.

About the work

Tell me about a CFD problem you have set up, even a class assignment.

What they are checking: The posting names learning StarCCM+, so what they have set up so far is the honest measure.

Walk me through how you would check whether a CFD result is trustworthy.

What they are checking: Mesh, convergence and sanity checking separate a real analyst from someone reading colorful pictures.

What coursework have you done in heat transfer and numerical methods?

What they are checking: The posting names numerical methods among the preferred qualifications.
