Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
Behavioral
Tell me about a time your cycle count accuracy was slipping. What did you find was actually causing it, and what did you change?
whether they diagnose root causes in inventory systems rather than just re-counting harder
Tell me about a time you had to build up a team's skills, whether through training, coaching, or certification, and what result you actually got from it.
real track record of developing people, not just describing management philosophy
Tell me about a time you disagreed with someone in Quality or Purchasing about how to solve a delivery or quality problem. How did you handle it?
cross-functional collaboration skills and whether they can hold a position without damaging the relationship
Tell me about a continuous improvement project you led on the materials side. What was the before and after, in real numbers?
whether they can point to measurable outcomes rather than general activity
Technical
Walk me through how you would set up a supermarket sizing and replenishment system for line-side parts on a production floor that can't afford to stop.
whether the candidate understands the mechanics of lean material replenishment, not just the vocabulary
What's your experience with SAP or a similar ERP system, and have you ever been asked to be a super user or go-to person for others?
depth of hands-on ERP experience versus surface familiarity, since this role expects them to support others
Describe the worst material flow bottleneck you've ever dealt with, from receiving to line-side delivery. How did you trace it and fix it?
systems thinking across the full material flow, since this role owns receiving through end-of-line shipping
What's your experience with barcode or RFID systems in a warehouse setting, and what problems have you seen them actually solve or fail to solve?
practical exposure to the specific technologies named in the posting versus theoretical knowledge
What does a healthy fill rate look like to you, and what levers do you actually pull when it starts dropping?
grasp of the specific KPI named in the posting and whether they know the operational levers behind it
Situational
Say a production line calls to say they're about to run out of a part and it's not your team's fault, purchasing dropped the ball. What do you do in the next hour?
ability to act under pressure and cross-functionally without pointing fingers
How would you balance staffing levels on a materials team when workload swings from day to day, without over- or under-staffing shifts?
practical workforce planning skills and comfort making resourcing calls
If you inherited a warehouse where cycle counts were chronically behind schedule, what would your first 30 days look like?
prioritization and structured improvement planning under a real KPI
How do you keep planning, purchasing, and production aligned day to day so nobody is surprised by a shortage or a missed shipment?
communication habits and whether they build proactive routines versus reactive firefighting
