Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time a patient's goals didn't match what you thought was clinically appropriate. What did you do

ability to balance patient autonomy with clinical judgment and when to escalate to other providers

Tell me about a time you had to coordinate care with a nurse, doctor, or other therapist. How did that conversation go

ability to function as part of a medical team rather than working in isolation

How do you protect a patient's privacy and comfort during a session, especially with draping and sensitive conversations

understanding of professional boundaries and dignity in a clinical, not spa, environment

Tell me about the most medically complex patient population you've worked with. What did you have to learn or adjust for them

whether the two years of experience with a diverse population is genuine clinical breadth, not just relaxation massage

How would you contribute ideas to grow this program, like patient education materials or outreach to other clinics

initiative and interest in program development beyond just performing sessions

Technical

Walk me through how you would assess an oncology patient before their first massage session with you.

whether the candidate knows how to gather history and adapt technique for medically fragile patients, not just general intake habits

What contraindications would make you stop or modify a session, and can you give me an example from your own experience

depth of clinical safety knowledge specific to conditions like edema, thrombophlebitis, or active malignancy

How do you decide which modality to use for a given patient, say between myofascial release, manual lymphatic drainage, or craniosacral therapy

real working knowledge of multiple modalities and matching them to patient presentation rather than one default technique

What's your process for setting up and breaking down a treatment room to meet sanitation and safety standards in a hospital setting

whether the candidate treats infection control and hygiene as seriously as a medical facility requires versus a spa mindset

If a patient with insulin-dependent diabetes or an active infection was scheduled with you, how would you handle that appointment

practical application of contraindication knowledge to specific real-world scheduling situations

Situational

Describe how you would treat a pediatric patient differently than a geriatric one, or a prenatal patient differently from an orthopedic post-surgical one

comfort and competence with age-specific and population-specific adjustments across a wide patient mix

This role expects documentation completed the same day as the visit. How do you keep up with charting when your schedule is full back to back

realistic time management and whether documentation habits will hold up under a busy clinic pace

A patient tells you something that changes your treatment plan mid-session, maybe new pain or a medication they forgot to mention. What do you do

in-session clinical decision-making and willingness to adjust or stop treatment when new information arises
