Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to bring a process in-house that had been handled by an outside provider or consultant. What went wrong and what would you do differently next time?

real experience with insourcing transitions and honest reflection on failure modes

Tell me about a CBP audit or desk review you led. What did they ask for, and how did you make sure your documentation held up?

whether the candidate has actually stood in front of CBP scrutiny and can produce audit-ready work

You'll need buy-in from Supply Chain, Finance, Procurement, Legal, and Trade Compliance to get this program running. Tell me about a time you had to get several departments with different priorities to cooperate on a project like this.

cross-functional influence skill, since this role has no direct authority over the teams it depends on

Tell me about a time you trained non-experts, maybe in finance or supply chain, on a technical trade compliance topic. How did you make it land?

ability to build internal capability and transfer knowledge, since the role explicitly requires training staff

Tell me about the most complicated drawback claim dispute you've had with CBP. What was the disagreement and how did it resolve?

resilience and negotiation skill when the government pushes back on a claim

Technical

Walk me through a duty drawback claim you built from scratch, from identifying the eligible import and export transactions to submitting it to CBP.

whether the candidate has actually done the end-to-end mechanics of a claim, not just supervised one

What's the difference between manufacturing drawback and substitution drawback, and how would you decide which applies to a specific Brunswick component, say a propulsion part sourced from multiple suppliers?

depth of technical knowledge versus surface familiarity with drawback terminology

Describe how you'd use ACE entry data to identify drawback opportunities we might currently be missing across marine, propulsion, electronics, and component imports.

practical fluency with ACE data analysis, not just knowing the acronym

How would you evaluate and select an enterprise drawback software platform? What criteria would actually matter to you versus what a vendor would want you to focus on.

whether the candidate can lead a real vendor selection rather than defer entirely to IT or the vendor's pitch

What's a post summary correction, and when would you use a PSC versus filing a protest?

precise command of the recovery mechanisms named in the posting, not just drawback itself

Situational

How would you approach the first 90 days here, given that you're assessing existing drawback processes, an external provider relationship, and starting to build an import/export matching database at the same time?

ability to sequence a complex build-out under real constraints rather than trying to do everything at once

Suppose a broker submits a claim on your behalf and it later gets flagged for insufficient documentation. Walk me through how you'd respond and what you'd change going forward.

how the candidate handles accountability when a third party's work reflects on the internal program

If leadership asked you tomorrow for a recovery forecast and KPI dashboard for this program, what would you include, and what would you refuse to promise until you had more data?

judgment about setting credible expectations with executives versus overpromising recovery numbers
