Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you influenced a code change or a standards committee. What was your approach?

What they are checking: Experience with the slow, consensus-driven work of NEC, NFPA or CSA code influence.

Tell me about a team you managed that had to deliver steady results against targets. How did you keep everyone on track?

What they are checking: People leadership and predictable execution, which the posting stresses over individual expertise.

This role could be fully remote. How have you led a team and kept close to field reality without being in the room?

What they are checking: Whether they can stay connected to installers and inspectors while working from a distance.

What would you do

An inspector in one jurisdiction keeps rejecting home standby generator installs that pass everywhere else. How would your team handle that AHJ?

What they are checking: Whether they can resolve a local code dispute in a way that unblocks sales without burning the relationship.

How would you set response SLAs for AHJ and code inquiries, and what would you do when the team starts missing them?

What they are checking: Running a service function to measurable targets, which the posting makes this role accountable for.

How do you turn hundreds of repeated field questions into content that stops the questions from coming in?

What they are checking: Building reusable knowledge, which the posting names as a core goal of the role.

Sales says code confusion is killing deals in a new state. How do you figure out what's actually going on?

What they are checking: Separating real code barriers from sales objections, which decides where the team spends its time.

Your installation guide says one thing and a field engineer says the code now says another. How do you resolve it and make sure the content stays correct?

What they are checking: Owning installation information quality, since wrong guidance causes failed inspections and unhappy homeowners.

About the work

Which NEC articles come up most often for residential standby generators and transfer switches, and where do installers get them wrong?

What they are checking: Deep, practical code knowledge, since the team's credibility with inspectors depends on it.

How would you measure whether your training sessions for installers actually reduce rework?

What they are checking: Tying training to outcomes like activations and rework, not just attendance numbers.

Walk me through how code adoption cycles differ across states and how you'd track which edition each market enforces.

What they are checking: Understanding that code editions vary by jurisdiction, which shapes every piece of installation guidance.
