Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a time you built a learning agenda for a brand's growth strategy. What research did you commission, and how did you decide what to prioritize?

whether the candidate can structure and sequence research against business priorities rather than just running studies ad hoc

Describe a time your insights recommendation conflicted with what the marketing team wanted to do. What happened?

comfort challenging stakeholders and whether they can hold a position under pressure without damaging the relationship

Tell me about a time you introduced a new research tool or method, maybe something involving AI or social listening, to your team. How did you get buy-in?

genuine track record of pushing new methodology into an organization versus just being curious about trends

Tell me about a time you had to influence a cross-functional team, like brand creative or innovation, without having authority over them.

real influence skills in a matrixed organization where insights has no direct control over decisions

Describe the most ambiguous project you've worked on where the business problem wasn't clearly defined yet. How did you frame it?

comfort operating without a clear brief, which this role explicitly requires

Tell me about a brand you've worked on for an extended period. What's an insight you uncovered that actually changed the brand's direction?

whether their insights work has led to measurable impact rather than being purely informational

Technical

Tell me about a project where you had to triangulate insights from very different data sources, like scan data, custom qualitative, and social listening, into one clear recommendation.

ability to synthesize disparate data types into a coherent point of view rather than presenting a data dump

How have you used syndicated data like Nielsen alongside custom research in a single project? Give a specific example.

hands-on fluency with the actual data sources named in this role, not just familiarity with the concept

Walk me through how you'd set up a brand and category tracking system, including what you'd treat as leading versus lagging indicators.

depth of thinking on measurement design, not just familiarity with dashboards

Situational

Say you're working across three key Oreo markets and one local team has a strong consumer insight that contradicts the global brand strategy. How would you handle sharing that upward while respecting the local nuance?

skill navigating global-versus-local tension and cross-cultural collaboration without defaulting to either extreme

Imagine you're prepping materials for a senior leadership review on brand health and the numbers show a soft quarter. How do you frame that story so it's honest but still actionable?

ability to deliver bad news with a constructive point of view rather than just reporting numbers

If you had a tight budget and had to choose between a large quantitative tracking study and a smaller custom qualitative deep dive to answer a renovation question, how would you decide?

practical judgment about matching research method to business question under real constraints

How do you typically structure a story or presentation when you know the audience is senior leadership with limited time?

storytelling and communication discipline suited to executive audiences, a core requirement of this role
