Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you turned a vague business need into an analytics solution people actually used.

What they are checking: Whether they start from the problem and adoption, not from the tools, which the posting stresses.

How would you lead and develop a small team of analysts and developers through a big platform change?

What they are checking: Whether they can manage people through change, not only the technical work of the migration.

Tell me about a data project that failed or stalled. What would you do differently?

What they are checking: Whether they learn from setbacks honestly, which matters when leading a multi-year rebuild.

What would you do

Two offices report different numbers for the same enrollment count. How would you resolve it?

What they are checking: Whether they can set shared definitions and data governance so leaders trust one version of the numbers.

Leaders want a dozen new dashboards while you're in the middle of rebuilding the infrastructure. How do you prioritize?

What they are checking: Whether they can balance short-term requests with long-term foundations and explain that choice to leaders.

How would you measure whether the new BI environment is delivering real value to the college?

What they are checking: Whether they define success by decisions and outcomes improved, not just by the number of reports produced.

How do you explain a technical data limitation to a vice president who wants an answer by Friday?

What they are checking: Whether they can communicate clearly with leaders and offer a usable answer with honest caveats.

About the work

We're building a new BI data architecture and toolset. How would you approach designing it from the ground up for a college?

What they are checking: Whether they can design a sound architecture while staying focused on what college leaders actually need to know.

How would you integrate data from Workday and other college systems into a cloud data platform?

What they are checking: Whether they understand data integration, pipelines and keeping source and reporting data in sync.

How do you protect student data under FERPA while still making it useful for analysis?

What they are checking: Whether they can balance access with privacy through roles, masking and clear rules.

How do you decide whether a report should be a self-service dashboard or something your team builds and maintains?

What they are checking: Whether they think about who maintains a report and how users will use it, not just whether it can be built.
