Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
Behavioral
Tell me about a time a patient was anxious or in pain during a mammogram. What did you do?
bedside manner and ability to keep a stressed patient calm during an uncomfortable exam
Tell me about a time you caught an error, maybe a mismatch between the physician's order and what was requested, before it became a problem.
attention to detail and willingness to double check orders rather than just execute them
Describe how you'd explain an unusual or uncomfortable positioning requirement to a patient who's nervous about the exam.
communication skill in translating technical needs into reassurance patients can accept
Tell me about a time you had to physically move or transfer a patient who couldn't easily reposition themselves. How did you handle it safely?
physical readiness and safe technique for the lifting, pushing, and sliding transfers the job requires
Technical
Walk me through how you position a patient for a standard CC and MLO view and what you're checking before you take the image.
whether the candidate actually knows core mammography positioning technique, not just terminology
How do you evaluate a completed mammogram image for positioning, compression, and artifacts before sending it on, and what makes you decide to repeat it?
attention to image quality standards and whether they'll redo a scan rather than pass along a marginal one
What do you know about MQSA and how it shapes your day-to-day work in the mammography suite?
real working knowledge of the federal regulation governing mammography, not just that they've heard of it
What information do you pull from the patient's record before starting a screening or diagnostic exam, and what do you do if key history is missing?
thoroughness in gathering clinical context and comfort tracking down missing information rather than skipping it
How do you document billing codes and enter study information into the radiology information system to make sure charges are accurate?
familiarity with RIS documentation and the link between clinical work and correct billing
Situational
A patient's chart shows a prior biopsy or implant that changes how you'd approach the exam. How do you adjust your technique?
ability to adapt imaging approach based on patient history rather than running a one-size-fits-all exam
How comfortable are you working independently with minimal supervision, especially on days when you're rotating between the Gurnee location and the hospital?
readiness to function autonomously across different locations and shift patterns typical of PRN work
If a radiologist asks you for pertinent history on a patient right before reviewing films, what would you tell them and how would you make sure you had it ready?
ability to anticipate what the radiologist needs and communicate concisely under time pressure
How do you adjust your approach when imaging a pediatric or elderly patient compared with a typical adult patient?
understanding of age-specific care principles required across the patient population served
