Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you got a group of people to join an activity when most of them did not want to at first.

What they are checking: Whether they can motivate reluctant residents with warmth instead of pressure, which is most of this job day to day.

Tell me about a relationship you built with an older adult, a client or a customer that grew over time.

What they are checking: Whether they can build genuine one-on-one connections, which the posting names as a core duty.

What kinds of recreational activities have you led before, and which ones worked best?

What they are checking: Whether they bring real experience leading activities and can reflect on what makes one succeed.

What would you do

A resident who used to come to every program has stopped showing up for two weeks. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they notice withdrawal as a possible sign of health or mood changes and follow up one-on-one.

We share programming through newsletters, the in-house TV channel, postings and email. How do you make sure the information is right everywhere?

What they are checking: Whether they are careful with details, since one wrong time on the calendar sends residents to an empty room.

You are leading a group outing and one resident becomes tired and confused halfway through. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can stay calm, keep the group safe and get help for one person during a trip.

The director asks you to help plan a holiday celebration with a small budget. Where do you start?

What they are checking: Whether they can be creative and resourceful while supporting the director's plan rather than replacing it.

Two residents get into an argument during a card game you are running. What do you say?

What they are checking: Whether they can calm a conflict respectfully while keeping the activity enjoyable for everyone else.

About the work

How would you plan an activity so that residents with different mobility, hearing or memory levels can all take part?

What they are checking: Whether they can adapt programs to a wide range of abilities so nobody is left on the sidelines.

Walk me through how you would build the Monthly Event Calendar from a blank page.

What they are checking: Whether they can balance variety, resident interests, staffing and space when filling a full month of programs.

Why does keeping records of who attended and how they participated matter in a senior living community?

What they are checking: Whether they see participation records as useful information about resident well-being, not just paperwork.
