Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a learning program you built from scratch that changed how people performed on the job. How did you know it worked?

What they are checking: Whether they measure learning by capability and business results, not attendance or satisfaction scores.

Tell me about a time you partnered with a community college, trade school or other outside education partner. What made it work or fail?

What they are checking: Whether they can build external partnerships that actually supply talent and credentials, which the posting names as part of the job.

Describe a time you had to influence senior operations leaders who did not report to you.

What they are checking: Whether they can lead through influence in a manufacturing culture where HR must earn its seat at the table.

What would you do

This is a newly created role to build a Technical University for maintenance, operations, quality, engineering and skilled trades. Where would you start?

What they are checking: Whether they can turn a blank page into a sequenced plan, starting with business needs and skill gaps rather than building courses.

Plant leaders say they can't spare people from the line for training. How do you get them on board?

What they are checking: Whether they can earn buy-in from operations leaders by tying training to downtime, safety and output they care about.

Skilled trades are hard to hire for. How can a learning program also help attract and keep talent?

What they are checking: Whether they see career pathways as a recruiting and retention tool, not only a training expense.

How do you keep technical content current when equipment, processes and quality standards change?

What they are checking: Whether they plan for upkeep and ownership of content so the program does not go stale after launch.

About the work

How would you design an apprenticeship pathway for maintenance technicians at a food plant?

What they are checking: Whether they understand how classroom, on-the-job training, mentors, certifications and pay progression fit together in a real trades program.

How do you decide which skills should be taught in a classroom, which online, and which hands-on at the machine?

What they are checking: Whether they can match learning method to the skill, which matters a lot for technical and safety-critical work.

How would you make the Technical University scale across many plants with different equipment and different levels of maturity?

What they are checking: Whether they can design a common framework that still flexes for local equipment and site needs.

What would you report to leadership after the first year to show the Technical University is paying off?

What they are checking: Whether they can define clear capability, engagement and retention measures that connect learning to business growth.
