Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a time you owned a quarterly all-hands meeting from start to finish. What did the planning timeline look like and what went wrong that you had to fix on the fly?

whether they can independently run a recurring high-visibility program end to end, not just contribute pieces of it

Tell me about a piece of executive communication you drafted that came back heavily marked up. What did you learn about that executive's voice or priorities from the edits?

editorial humility and ability to adapt writing to executive style rather than defending first drafts

Give me an example of a time you anticipated a communications risk before anyone asked you to look into it.

the proactive, anticipatory instinct the posting explicitly calls out, versus purely reactive execution

Tell me about a stakeholder, maybe a VP or someone senior to you, who pushed back on your communications recommendation. How did you handle it?

stakeholder management skill and whether they can hold a position with someone more senior without damaging the relationship

Tell me about a time you had to build trust with a department that didn't see communications as a priority or didn't want your involvement.

ability to establish communications as a trusted advisor rather than an order-taker, which the posting explicitly wants

Technical

How would you go about launching or revamping an employee recognition or volunteer program at a company this size, say a few thousand employees?

practical program design skill and understanding of engagement mechanics, not just event logistics

Have you worked somewhere with formal approval workflows or spokesperson standards for internal messaging? Walk me through how that process worked and where it slowed things down.

real experience operating inside regulated-industry communications controls versus a generic answer

What's your process for taking a dense, technical update from a functional leader, say from finance or legal, and turning it into something employees will actually read?

editorial judgment and translation skill across audiences with different literacy in business jargon

What does a polished, executive-ready piece of writing actually look like to you, and what's the difference between good and great in your view?

whether their writing standards match the bar the role demands, beyond just claiming to be a strong writer

Situational

Say a business leader wants to send an urgent message to the whole company about a layoff or restructuring, and they want it out in two hours. Walk me through what you'd do.

judgment under time pressure and awareness of approval workflows and risk in a regulated environment

You're juggling an all-hands deck due Friday, a recognition program launch next week, and an urgent request from an executive's chief of staff. How do you decide what gets your attention first?

prioritization instincts and ability to manage competing deadlines without dropping anything

If you found out two days before an all-hands that the CEO's key talking point had changed and materials were already built, what would you do?

composure and problem-solving when a program in motion gets disrupted
