Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a merger or acquisition integration you managed from planning through close. What was your role and what did the plan look like day one versus six months in?

whether the candidate has genuinely run a full integration lifecycle versus just participating in one

Tell me about a time you had to capture and report on value creation metrics for an integration. How did you define success and how did you track it over time?

experience translating integration work into measurable financial and non-financial outcomes, a core deliverable in this role

Describe a situation where you had to deliver difficult news or push back on an executive stakeholder during a sensitive integration. How did you handle it?

executive presence and political acumen under pressure, since the role explicitly requires navigating complex org dynamics

Describe a time you served as the go-to expert on process or methodology for your team. How did you transfer that knowledge so it stuck?

ability to coach and build organizational capability, not just execute personally

Tell me about a time you noticed a recurring problem across multiple integrations and pushed for a process change. What resistance did you run into and how did you handle it?

continuous improvement mindset and ability to lead change across peers and leadership

Technical

What integration methodologies or project management frameworks have you used, and how did you adapt them when a deal's structure didn't fit the standard playbook?

depth of actual methodology knowledge versus buzzword familiarity, and flexibility in application

Tell me about a time you had to quantify cost savings or cost increases tied to an integration plan. Walk me through how you built that number and how confident you were in it.

financial acumen and rigor, a preferred qualification the interviewer will want evidence of

What integration or program management software have you used day to day, and what did you do when the tool didn't capture something leadership needed to see?

hands-on tool proficiency plus resourcefulness when systems have gaps

Situational

Say you're three months into an integration and you discover the plan data in your integration software is inconsistent with what's actually happening on the ground. What do you do first?

attention to data integrity and whether they have a practical process for catching and correcting drift between plan and reality

How would you go about identifying a risk to an integration timeline before it becomes a visible problem, and who would you loop in and when?

proactive risk management instincts and judgment about escalation timing

You're running five high-priority workstreams at once and two stakeholders each think their initiative should come first. How do you decide what gets your attention this week?

prioritization skill under real resource constraints, called out explicitly as a requirement

If an executive sponsor keeps changing priorities mid-integration in a way that puts the timeline at risk, how do you manage that relationship while still protecting the plan?

discretion and emotional intelligence when managing up in politically sensitive situations

This role is fully remote and works across a large distributed organization. How do you stay closely connected to on-the-ground realities of an integration when you're not physically there?

practical strategy for remote stakeholder management and staying informed without in-person presence
