Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
You work with sales reps, estimators, project managers and engineering. Tell me about a time you had to get answers from several people to finish one piece of work.
What they are checking: Whether they can chase down information from busy colleagues politely and persistently without letting a quote stall.
Tell me about a time you made a mistake on an order or an invoice. How did you find it and what did you change afterward?
What they are checking: Honesty about errors and whether they build a check into their process so the same mistake does not reach a customer twice.
How do you keep track of follow-ups so a customer question never just falls through the cracks?
What they are checking: Whether they have a real, repeatable system for follow-up, since prompt response is the core promise of this role.
What would you do
A glazing contractor calls, upset that their order shows the wrong finish. The sales rep is traveling. What do you do in the next hour?
What they are checking: Whether they own the customer's problem and move it forward, or just take a message and wait for someone else.
You have five quote requests in your queue and two contractors have each told you theirs is due tomorrow. How do you decide what goes first?
What they are checking: How they prioritize under deadline pressure and whether they communicate with the customers who will have to wait.
A customer asks for a price on a configuration you're not sure engineering will approve. What do you tell them?
What they are checking: Whether they avoid promising what the plant cannot build, and know when to bring engineering in before quoting.
About the work
Walk me through how you would build a Request for Quote from an elevation takeoff when the plans and the specifications don't quite agree.
What they are checking: Whether they catch conflicts between drawings and specs before pricing, instead of quoting one and hoping the other never comes up.
Have you priced storefront, curtainwall or doors before, in Price Book, Online Rapid Entry, Glaziers Studio or something like them? Tell me how you checked your numbers.
What they are checking: How much ramp-up they need on our pricing tools, and whether they have a habit of double-checking a quote before it goes out.
What's the difference between a storefront system and a curtainwall system, as best you understand it?
What they are checking: Whether they know enough about the product to ask the right questions when a glazier calls, even if the details still need teaching.
How comfortable are you reading architectural plans? What would you look for first on an elevation drawing?
What they are checking: Whether they can pull dimensions, openings and system types off a drawing, which is the raw material for every quote here.
