About your past

Tell me about a time you couldn't solve an issue yourself. When and how did you hand it off to another team?

What they are checking: Knowing the limits of their access and skill, and escalating cleanly with enough detail that the next team can act.

Have you ever written or fixed a knowledge base article? What made it useful or not useful before you touched it?

What they are checking: Whether they help improve support content so the Service Desk can resolve more issues at first contact.

How do you keep your technical skills current in hardware, networking and applications while handling a full ticket queue?

What they are checking: Self-driven learning habits, since an entry-level engineer is expected to grow into more complex incidents.

Tell me about a pattern you noticed in tickets that pointed to a bigger problem. What did you do with it?

What they are checking: Whether they think beyond single tickets and help find improvements to procedures or recurring issues.

What would you do

How do you decide which of your open tickets to work first when several are near their service level deadline?

A user is frustrated because this is the third time their laptop has had the same problem. How do you handle that conversation?

What they are checking: Customer care under pressure and whether they look for the root cause of a repeat issue instead of patching again.

Someone senior asks you to give them admin rights on their machine right now to install software. What do you do?

What they are checking: Holding to security and service management processes politely, even when the request comes from someone with authority.

About the work

A ticket comes up from the Service Desk saying a user can't reach an internal app, but everyone else can. How do you work through it?

What they are checking: Whether they troubleshoot in a logical order, isolating user, device, access and network before guessing at fixes.

What does a good ticket note look like to you? Tell me what you write after you close one.

What they are checking: Whether their documentation would let the next technician or a resolver team pick up the issue without starting over.

Walk me through how you would troubleshoot an account that keeps getting locked out.

What they are checking: Familiarity with common access causes like cached credentials or old devices, and following approved tools rather than workarounds.
