Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about the hardest electrical or controls problem you've solved on packaging equipment.

What they are checking: Whether they have real depth with industrial controls, not just basic wiring.

The schedule is four on, four off, 12-hour shifts. How have you handled continuous shift work before?

What they are checking: Whether they can keep up reliability and alertness on long continuous shifts.

Tell me about a time you worked with mechanics to fix a problem that was part electrical and part mechanical.

What they are checking: Whether they collaborate across trades instead of pointing fingers when a cause isn't clear.

What would you do

A sensor keeps failing on the same machine. What do you do beyond replacing it again?

What they are checking: Whether they look for root cause like mounting, wiring or environment rather than repeating the same fix.

Production wants you to bypass a safety interlock to keep running until the end of the shift. What do you say?

What they are checking: Whether they hold firm on safety devices even under pressure from production leaders.

About the work

Walk me through how you'd troubleshoot an Allen-Bradley PLC when a machine stops and there's no obvious fault.

What they are checking: Whether they can go online with the PLC, check I/O and follow the logic to the real cause.

A VFD on a conveyor faults intermittently. How do you track it down?

What they are checking: Whether they know drive faults, wiring and load issues and can work an intermittent problem patiently.

How do you handle lockout/tagout and arc flash safety when working on live panels for troubleshooting?

What they are checking: Whether they know when live work is justified and what PPE and procedures it requires.

What kinds of PLC programming changes have you made, and how do you make sure a change doesn't cause a new problem?

What they are checking: Whether they back up, test and document program changes instead of editing logic on the fly.

How do you install a new motor or control circuit so it's done to code and documented?

What they are checking: Whether they do installation work properly and update prints so others can trust them.

What preventive maintenance do you think matters most for electrical equipment in a manufacturing plant?

What they are checking: Whether they think about preventing failures through checks like thermal scans and tightening connections.
