Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Why are you interested in finance at a consumer packaged goods company?

What they are checking: Whether they have thought about the industry and the role instead of applying to every finance internship.

Tell me about a time you worked with data in Excel to answer a question. What did you build?

What they are checking: Whether they have hands-on spreadsheet skills that let them contribute in their first weeks.

Tell me about a group project where a teammate wasn't doing their part. What did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can collaborate and handle friction maturely in a team setting.

What would you want to get out of an 11-week internship here?

What they are checking: Whether they have realistic goals and will take advantage of the learning and networking on offer.

What would you do

Your manager gives you an analysis task but you're not sure what they really want. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they will ask clarifying questions early instead of spinning their wheels.

You find an error in a report after you've already sent it to your manager. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they own mistakes quickly and honestly, which builds trust in finance.

How would you explain a financial finding to someone outside finance, like a brand manager?

What they are checking: Whether they can communicate numbers simply, which is a big part of business partnering.

About the work

Walk me through the main lines of a profit and loss statement and how they connect.

What they are checking: Whether they have the basic accounting knowledge that FP&A work is built on.

If one of our snack brands had sales go up but profit go down last quarter, what might explain it?

What they are checking: Whether they can think through drivers like costs, mix, promotions and pricing instead of guessing.

What's the difference between a budget, a forecast and actual results, and why does each matter?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the basic planning rhythm an FP&A team runs every month.
