Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

What draws you to finance modernization rather than a traditional FP&A internship?

What they are checking: Whether they are genuinely interested in improving how finance works, not just doing analysis.

Tell me about an analytical tool, dashboard or automation you've built. What problem did it solve?

What they are checking: Whether they have actually built something useful, which is the core of this internship.

Tell me about a time you had to learn a new software or skill quickly to finish a project.

What they are checking: Whether they can pick up new tools on their own, since modernization software changes quickly.

What would you do

If a finance team spends two days each month copying data into the same report, how would you approach fixing that?

What they are checking: Whether they can spot a manual process and think through a practical way to automate it.

How would you get busy finance analysts to actually use a tool you built?

What they are checking: Whether they think about the users and adoption, not just the technical build.

Your project scope keeps growing as more people ask for features. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can manage scope and deliver something finished by the end of the summer.

How would you explain a technical tool to a finance leader who doesn't care how it works?

What they are checking: Whether they can communicate value in business terms instead of technical detail.

About the work

Which tools have you used for data analysis or visualization, like Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Python or SQL?

What they are checking: Whether they have enough technical skill to build tools in an 11-week window.

Walk me through the main lines of a P&L and how a forecast relates to actual results.

What they are checking: Whether they understand the finance concepts their tools will need to support.

How would you make sure the numbers in a new tool match the numbers in the old report?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that a fast tool is useless if finance teams can't trust its numbers.
